About the Author

Do you love words? I do.

My favorite English word used to be "antidisestablishmentarianism" because I was a know-it-all kid and that "word" was very long and therefore very smart.

I don't have a current favorite English word, but I'm open to suggestions.

My favorite Spanish word is suavizante, which means fabric softener.

My favorite American Sign Language Word is TURTLE, or maybe HURRICANE.

My favorite Chinese word is 麻烦 (máfan), which means "bother" or "hassle." You can say something is too much máfan, or that you hate to máfan someone. These are useful concepts for living in China, which I did for three years.

(You can read more about that at my old blog, Life in the Middle Kingdom.)

I am a Christian. Some of my recent favorite words from the Bible are, "Therefore the Lord longs to be gracious to you, And therefore He waits on high to have compassion on you. For the Lord is a God of justice; How blessed are all those who long for Him." (Isaiah 30:18, NASB)  One of my visions for this blog is that it will point people to Jesus and publicly acknowledge the ways that God has been working in my life.

I work as a speech language pathologist in a rehabilitation facility in the Midwest. My job is to help people recover their communication, thinking, and swallowing skills. My favorite thickened liquid is Sprite (extra cold) and my favorite muscle is the sternocleidomastoid, which is that lovely muscle that you see going from the behind the ear down to the collarbone in someone with a long, slender neck when her head is turned. My favorite speech pathology word is "logorrhea." You've heard people joke about diarrhea of the mouth? Too many words? Turns out that's an actual thing -- logorrhea.

Some of my other favorite words are found in the Anne of Green Gables series, the novel Jane Eyre, and almost anything by C.S. Lewis.

I started this blog because I like to write from time to time - mostly essays, blog posts, and silly limericks. These writings have been languishing in "My Documents" and I want to take them out for a little air.

I hope you find something you like. If you have favorite words to share, or writing topics to suggest, please let me know in the comments!

I suggest you read George MacDonald. He was the inspiration for C.S. Lewis. His novels are lovely. However, I suggest you read the ones edited by Michael Phillips or you will drown in the brogue of Scotland in the 1800's! There are FB sites as well.
